Did you know that there are 14 different watersheds in Placer County? The state has long depended on the precipitation that falls in the higher elevations of our source watersheds to provide drinking water, supplies for our agricultural sector, and habitat for native fish. Protecting water quality and quantity is becoming even more important as we experience more extreme weather patterns and prolonged periods of drought throughout the state.

Placer RCD is dedicated to protecting our natural hydrologic infrastructure. Every year since 2006, Placer RCD has teamed up with the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA) to remove red sesbania (Sesbania punicea) from the Dry Creek Watershed. Red sesbania, also known as scarlet wisteria or rattlebrush, is an invasive species that is rapidly spreading in our creeks and streams. The species forms dense clusters of vegetation on streambanks, increasing erosion and flood risk and decreasing biodiversity.
