Placer County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state. The rapid pace of development is causing substantial losses of habitat for native wildlife and has increased fragmentation and invasive species. Habitat for birds, insects, soil microbes, plants, and other wildlife is critical to a resilient and healthy ecosystem and provides ecosystem services that benefit our quality of life, food systems, and more. Placer RCD is working on several projects to improve breeding and feeding habitat for the western monarch butterfly. In addition, staff encourage retaining some snags in your forest for birds and insect habitat or exploring local nurseries to promote herbaceous species that benefit bees and other pollinators.
Habitat technical assistance can help you with:
- Potential cost-share and funding opportunities for improving pollinator habitat
- Identifying and learning how to manage invasive species
