Climate Resilience Through Habitat Restoration on California Lands

In 2023, the Wildlife Conservation Board awarded $19.4 million to Placer RCD and 39 other Resource Conservation Districts (RCDs) in California. This funding will be used by the RCDs to carry out projects aimed at creating new habitats and sequestering carbon, which will provide substantial benefits to both working and public lands. Placer RCD specifically received $450,000 from this grant, which will pay, at a minimum, the cost of plants and materials. The grant comes at a critical time when California’s pollinators and wildlife are facing significant threats due to habitat loss and climate change. With this funding, a large-scale effort will be initiated, resulting in long-term advantages for California’s land, climate, and its people.

Placer RCD is grateful for the support from the Wildlife Conservation Board and acknowledges the leadership provided by the California Association of Conservation Districts (CARCD) in securing the funding and providing implementation support.

Interest Form

Funding priority is initially given to working and private lands (see definition below). Nonetheless, we encourage all individuals interested in being considered for funding to complete the interest form provided below. Working and public land parties will be contacted in the order their submissions are received to assess whether their projects align with program deliverables. Non-working or public land parties may be considered case-by-case once all working and public land parties have been considered. A portion of the funding, specifically 33%, will be set aside and allocated to members of socially disadvantaged or underserved groups.
