SUMMARY:Fire Behavior and Fire Safety Workshop
DESCRIPTION: The University of California Cooperative Extension Placer-Nevada Office\, The Nevada County Resource Conservation District\, the Placer Resource Conservation District\, and the UCNR Fire Network are offering the first-of-its-kind Rancher’s Fire Academy for ranchers in the Sierra Foothill and Sierra Nevada regions. This series of workshops and field days will focus on:  \n\n\n\n\n(a) Education and hands-on training for ranchers regarding the use of prescribed fire for range improvement\, weed management\, and fuel load reduction; and (b) Creating new and strengthening existing rancher networks to assist in preparing for and responding to wildfire with the region. \n\n\n\n\nThe Fire Behavior and Fire Safety Workshop will be guided by Placer RCD’s Cordi Craig and Chris Paulus. SUMMARY:Evaluating Farm-to-School Funding Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:This workshop\, co-hosted by UC Cooperative Extension Placer-Nevada and Sierra Harvest\, will provide information and hands-on support to foothills farmers and ranchers who are interested in applying to the CDFA’s California Farm to School Incubator Grant Program. Participants will learn how to evaluate funding opportunities against their business plans; gain insight from food service directors and past farmer grantees on successful farm-to-school partnerships; and leave with a draft of their application if desired. This workshop is designed for people with established farm businesses. Space is limited.
